Five Four Fridays. #18

Today’s mixtape is a bit of a change. If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you might have figured out by now that I seriously enjoy musicians are blending and bending genres. I love it when an artist takes aspects from one type of music, and injects it into another. It’s one of the reasons that Andre Anjos of RAC is one of my all time favourite musicians. This mixtape below is a collection of five tracks that blur the lines between Electronic and Hip Hop. That’s right.

Two side notes on this one. Keep an eye on Popeska, a nineteen year old and coming producer from Atlanta. I’ve been following his work on SoundCloud for a while now, and he’s plays with a pretty versatile sound that will definitely be taking him places. It changes from track to track, but generally he has a hard style with intricate growls that could be compared to artists like Feed Me, but still keeps a level of catchy, melodic quality to each of his originals or remixes. Also, you might be asking, what is Mau5hax? It’s a new project that Deadmau5 tried out during Ultra in Miami. Basically five aspiring producers are chosen, and the entire Mau5trap crew help them hone their skills and collaborate for an entire day. Oh, and it’s all streamed live. Pretty amazing project and it was definitely worth tuning in for. I know this mixtape might not be for everyone, but the tracks are worth a listen if you enjoy either genre.

Finally Mord Fustang released a new EP. Last week his label dropped this out of the blue in the middle of the day and I almost let out a schoolgirl-esque squeal in the middle of lecture. Mord has done a bit of tweaking to his style and is definitely throwing in more bass to his sound. I honestly do like this EP, but it all becomes pretty repetitive. Each track is awesome but the second half is almost a perfect copy of the first. I hope to hear some pretty wicked remixes, bootlegs, and edits in the near future.

Five Four Fridays. #4

I have had quite the anti-climatic past twenty four hours. After class yesterday, I proudly finished a research oriented paper that I’d been slaving away at all week. I was then expecting to be tucked into bed for the first good night sleep in many, many days by ten o’clock. Wrong. After a night of partying at a Mardi Gras themed event (random timing, I know), I finally crawled into bed at four in the morning. Four hours later, I had to slump my way to class. Good thing that Friday isn’t my longest day of classes or anything…

Anyways, this week I’ve got a slew of ‘bouncier’ tracks for you as my friend would call them, and a fair bit of Avicii. A couple of the tracks are new releases that I’ve been waiting on for the past little while, and holy smokes were they worth the wait. Now it’s time to catch some Z’s before heading out for the night once again. Wish my liver luck.

Five Four Fridays. #2

Ah yes, Thanksgiving. The time of year you get to spend with your family and of course, turkey. This year, I won’t be getting either of those things for the first time in my life. Instead, I have opted to replace them both with copious amounts of beer. I swear I had no other choice.

Kitchener, Ontario, is home of the second largest beer festival in the world aside from the real Oktoberfest in Berlin. The reason why is that Kitchener actually used to be called Berlin. Makes sense right? Either way, after my marketing class, my friends and I will be immediately heading out for what will most certainly be one of the most ridiculous nights of the year. Here are some tracks for you to get ridiculous to as well, or a soundtrack for eating turkey if that’s what you’re into.

Once again I am going to troll on the readers who only follow this blog on weekdays to avoid music that goes ‘unce unce unce.’ This video is just far too good to be kept to myself.

Yesterday Madeon posted up a video of himself making a new track. If you haven’t ever heard of the producer in question, prepare to have your mind blown. Madeon is a now seventeen year old up and comer from Nantes, a city in western France. Yes, you heard me right. Seventeen! Last year he surprised the world with his bouncy, disco influenced style of house music, but it was not until about a month ago when he dropped his remix of Deadmau5′ Raise Your Weapon that the masses started to take notice. Just have a listen and I swear you’ll be just as in awe as the rest of the music scene.
