Tonight is my last night at home in Vancouver before heading back East. I’ve never had to deal with an East Coast winter before so naturally I’m unprepared. I’ve obviously heard that they’re brutal, but the other day I made the mistake of checking the weather and may or may not have shed a tear. I mean, this place gets cold enough to freeze a lake the size of a small country, what have I gotten myself into. Most likely, the winter will kill me, so I might as well give you folk some tracks I’ve kept hidden in my arsenal. Save them for your hipster electro friends.
Joe Garston is a name you should familiarize yourself with ASAP. He’s a twenty year old from the UK who’s now the rookie on Plasmapool. I guarantee we’ll be hearing lots from him throughout the year and for good reason. The second is yet another wicked talent from Brazil. I swear that country has been churning out the creators of some of the best tracks in rotation. The third is the side project of two of the members of Australia’s Pendulum that has been picking up more and more followers every day. If you haven’t heard of it already, get on it. The fourth is someone from LA and that’s about all I know. To finish, I’m leaving you guys with something new and beautiful from the alias of Jeff Montalvo. Take in every moment, because this is my absolute favourite rework from this cat.
I apologize for my absence so this should do it for all the weekend warriors.
Yours truly,
Grant.
Five Four Fridays.
It’s been a while hasn’t it. My body has been to hell and back in the past three weeks. I honestly hadn’t slept properly in over a month because of all the papers, projects, presentations, stresses, and poor time management. I don’t think that I would have made it through if it weren’t for the sort of music that I’m giving you an abundance of below. Something about electronic music has always fascinated me. The music itself always gets knocked for being anything but, but that’s not the point I’m getting at. There’s just something that the music does to people. You could power an entire city with the energy that a venue exudes when the combination of man and machine produce just the right amount of beats and bass. One could go to a solid show without any sort of party additive and get high off the vibes. It’s honestly indescribable. Unfortunately, the scene lately has made drugs trendy again, but hey, you can’t win every battle.
Below is another amazing remix from none other than the electro guru himself, a rework form a highly underrated Torontonian, a random mix that I had sent to me last week, a poppy but still wickedly awesome remix from a DJ who’s name I always get wrong, and finally the release of one of the best remixes of the year from a guy who’s alias has no relation whatsoever to his hometown of Atlanta. Hopefully they can keep you going too.
When I was flat broke not too long ago, Dada Life tickets went on sale here in Vancouver (Yes, I’m back in rain city for the holidays). I cried on the inside in combination with the sounds of a five year old girl sobbing that were in no way coming from myself. The Swedish goonshow puts on my all time favourite electro show hands down. The amount of fun and shenanigans that these guys have while performing should land them a reality TV show. Not to mention the effect that it has on the equally ridiculous crowd.
Thank goodness that my friend kept me up to date with their tour stop in Toronto the day after I sadly sold my car so I could afford to purchase tickets which I literally just did. There was no way that I’d miss out on the most fun I’ve had on a dance floor twice in a months time. I don’t really need to say much more about these guys since the new music video sort of speaks for itself. If you’re a fellow ticket holder and love bananas and champagne, you’re in for a treat because there will be no shortage of either at the show. Don’t even try to tell me that’s not an awesome combination.
What a week. First, let me apologize for the late post, the lack of posting this week, and very likely total lack thereof over the next week and a half. To keep up with assignments, I had to sacrifice sleep for not one, not two, but four days. I don’t ever recommend doing such a thing. Life gets really weird, and not even in a good way. Hallucinating is not as cool as I thought it’d be.
It’s currently quite late here in the city, and I’m sitting in my school’s cafeteria looking like a hacker with all my electronics. The janitor is giving me some pretty dirty looks so I’ve gotta make this quick. Some new stuff, some not so new stuff, but all worth cranking I promise. Use these bangers wisely.
The weekend is finally here and what an insane week it has been. Massive amounts of tasty (and not so tasty) elixirs all week leading up to my birthday, and on my big day my roommate and I somehow mustered up the energy to get to the Porter Robinson show that I’d bought tickets for a month in advance. It was a rough ride into the city, but I’m so glad that I managed to see him rock out. Honestly, one of the greatest sets I’ve ever heard, and he was just loving every second of it. Really gave the whole show a great vibe.
To match the insanity of the week, here is a bundle of new tracks with obscene amounts of bass to help you go nuts this weekend. I’ve been itching to post these all week so I seriously hope you enjoy them as much as I will. Enough with the chit chat, get to fist pumping (if that’s what you’re into).
When I interviewed Rich, he was in the middle of working on this track, and oh my goodness what a track it is. Cannot wait for the official release on November 29th. Same with quite a few HUGE tracks that he’ll be releasing over the next couple months. On his fan page earlier this week he revealed some of the tracks by saying “there is a Chris Lake remix that you will hear on my radio show on thursday, a remix for Morgan Page (tiny sample in that video), a remix for Zedd, a remix for Porter Robinson (that is sounding “WOWWWW omgggg holy shit man” according to Porter) and a collab with Chris Lake, plus some other new originals, and a very special secret remix that I can’t mention yet.” Do I need to reiterate why he is one of my favourite producers of all time?
Today started out horrendously. I woke up under tired and over inebriated, alarm going off obnoxiously loud, wallet nowhere to be seen, and a text from my roommate saying: Two things. Are you alive and why is there a baby shoe in our room? I swear I have no idea how this keeps happening. Progressively though, my day has gotten much better and I think it’s going to be a great night. Hell, I even got a card in the mail!
As always, tuneage is a necessity for a beautiful Friday night. A smooth remix from an LA based electro pop/lo-fi group, three Brazilians’ collaboration on one of the most popular tracks of the year, my favourite track of all time from Cold Blank, a new song from a Colorado based, incredibly melodic up and comer, and an absolutely bangin’ rework from none other than Kaskade. I hope these do you some good in the late hours to come.

I’ve been keeping this wicked Californian duo under wraps for a little while now. I first came across them while procrastinating late one night on Vimeo and I stumbled upon Logan’s personal channel. There were tons of amazing videos of intimate recording sessions with other artists, but when I started watching a live rooftop session […]
Today is a special day. My buddies DAKK vs SLICE killed it when they opened for Adventure Club last night, and now I have the madness that is to come in a mere five hours to look forwards to. One of my good friends is having his birthday shindig tonight, and countless amounts of hard […]
Back in September, I’d received an email that I embarrassingly overlooked in the midst of all the music submissions and suggestions for this site. This last month, I received yet another email containing the same artist’s work, but the difference was that a link to the entire album was provided. I swear I listened to […]
More of his tracks have topped various electronic music charts around the world than most producers could even hope for. He constantly drops the most jaw dropping, heart stopping tracks that make you want to drop everything and let loose. He started up and runs the label Big Fish Recordings, where heavy talents such as […]
We live in a strange time. We live in a world where people perceive other people through what information is provided about them on social networks. We live in a world where anyone can become famous overnight by simply putting a thirty second clip of stupidity on YouTube. We live in a world where more […]
