Hot off the press.

29 Jul

So as it turns out, my entire weekend is shot. For the next two weeks I am to be working early every single day. This means no shows or rowdy times for me. To help me ease the pain, I’ve decided to live vicariously through you lovely internet folk, knowing full well that you’ll take advantage of all the fresh goodies below.

Make me proud,

Grant.

I think Calvin Harris may have topped the Swedish House Mafia for the track of the summer. A couple weeks ago, this track was previewed on BBC Radio 1 and I don’t think that my group of friends have stopped listening to it yet. Definitely a perfect drive-around-in-the-sunshine kind of song. Thanks Calvin.

Calvin Harris – Feel So Close [Mediafire]

Here’s an older Calvin track to take you back a few years.

Calvin Harris – The Rain [Mediafire]

I swear that Sweden must be teaching producing in high school. Alesso is yet another youngin’ outta Stockholm who can’t touch a track without turning it into gold. I’ll admit that this ‘remix’ is hardly that, but that doesn’t make it any less of a banger. What were you doing when you were eighteen?

LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem (Alesso Remix) [Mediafire]

Proof that the kid has talent.

Nadia Ali, Starkillers, & Alex Kenji – Pressure (Alesso Remix) [Mediafire]

UK producer Ben Watts, better known as Neo Tokyo, makes some of my favorite songs to drive quickly to. Unfortunately he’s been fairly quiet for quite some time, but about a week ago he gave us a teaser of what is to come in the near future. Brace yourself, it’s going to be an insane ride.

Neo Tokyo – Fear Of The Dark EP (Teaser)

A couple of his past tracks to get you even more pumped.

Edwin Van Cleef – Overtaken (Neo Tokyo Remix)

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo Remix) [Mediafire]

On the topic of perfect driving music, The Glitch Mob have dropped a new EP which contains three absolute masterpieces. Last week I showed you the track Warrior Concerto, but now I will show you my favorite track of the whole collection in case you haven’t heard it yet.

The Glitch Mob – We Can Make The World Stop [Mediafire]

Of course I’ll save the best for last. As usual, the Brazilian duo known only as Darth & Vader cannot crank out a track without it being one of the most technical and rowdy things you’ve ever heard. This last month they were the guest producer on Lazy Rich’s monthly podcast. I highly, highly recommend subscribing to it via Itunes. Once a month, Rich will show you his current top ten favorite tracks, play unreleased tracks on his label, Big Fish Recordings, and a give you an hour long exclusive guest mix. Trust me, he has great taste. Simply go to Itunes and it should be easy enough to find in the Podcast section.

Bonus

My buddies over at Rain City Essential put this track up last week and it is an absolute gem. Yes, the intro is long, but please let the song run it’s course. It will all make sense once the drop… well, drops. Be sure to check out their site to keep up to date with the best House music happening all around the world at this very moment.

Avicii – Fade Into Darkness (Aylen & ThatMoment Remix) [Mediafire]

Music to match the sunshine.

28 Jul

I swear Mother Nature has been going through menopause the past few months. Us here in Vancouver have been absolutely robbed of our summer. Since June, there has maybe been about eight days of glorious sunshine. Because of this, there has been a lack of campfires, beach days, pool parties, and feel good music.

I’ll always have a soft spot for catchy, upbeat, poppy rap. Something about it just makes you want to do a keg stand and party on a beach. I like to call this stuff Hip Pop. Steven Markowitz, better known as Hoodie Allen, is one of the fellows that has the chops and talent to make this sort of music. He is a 22 year old, unsigned and in no hurry to sign, university grad, ex Google employee from New York. Not only does he make an abundance of this feel good music, he provides it all for free. Yes, completely free and no strings attached. About three days ago he released his third mixtape called Leap Year. Below are a few of my top picks but you can get the entire collection here.

Now you’ve got the tunes to throw a pool party so be sure to invite me,

Grant.

Hoodie Allen – The Chase is On

Hoodie Allen – #WhiteGirlProblems

Hoodie Allen – Soul On Fire

A couple others worth having a listen to.

Hoodie Allen – Words Of Wisdom

Hoodie Allen – You Are Not A Robot

Hoodie Allen – Swimming With Sharks

If you want some more, just Google his name and you’ll be able to find the other mixtapes with ease.

When worlds collide.

26 Jul

While I was away on vacation destroying my liver at the always ridiculous Crankworx bike festival in Whistler, I had received a handful of emails with music suggestions since I’ve been lacking in the posting department lately. Here is one of them.

The story on these guys is that they formed about three or four years ago in Spain. The quintet is made up of both English peeps and Spaniards from various musical backgrounds. The sound these folk make is a combination of acoustic and electronic music ranging from dubstep to drum & bass. Through all of this uniqueness, they still manage to retain a traditional Basque (a type of old school folk music) sound. Intriguing, no? Yes.

This music is a lot more interesting than myself,

Grant.

Crystal Fighters – At Home [Mediafire]

Crystal Fighters – Follow

Crystal Fighters – With You

Get People – Rain Tears (Crystal Fighters Remix) [Mediafire]

Bonus

Crystal Fighters – Plage (Compuphonic Remix)

Crystal Fighters – At Home (Pony Pony Run Run Remix)

Crystal Fighters – At Home (Acoustic Version)

Double Bonus

Pony Pony Run Run – Hey You (Crystal Fighters Remix) [Mediafire]

Making up for lost time passed and to come.

20 Jul

I’ll admit it, I’ve been pretty lazy with this blog for the past week. Please don’t get mad, but I am probably not going to post any more music until next week. I’m heading to Crankworx tomorrow in the afternoon and I don’t think it would be wise of me to bring my laptop along. Because of this, I’m going to hook you up with a bunch of new summer tunes to hold you over until then.

Please don’t hate me,

Grant.

Bibio is the alias of Stephen Wilkinson, a British producer who usually spends his time dabbling in electronic and experimental music. His most recent record, Mind Brokeh, is definitely worth having a listen to. Don’t beleive me? Hit play on the first track below. Don’t be fooled by the slow and nostalgic intro as this is definitely a summer jam worth having on tap.

Bibio – Lovers’ Carvings [Mediafire]

Bibio – K Is For Kelson [Mediafire]

These next guys released their debut five track EP about three months ago and it makes the perfect summer driving soundtrack. Their laid back, dreamy, afro-guitar sound could be taken straight out of a sixties surf film. Does it surprise you to learn that they’re from San Diego?

Dirty Gold – California Sunrise [Mediafire]

Dirty Gold – Quiet Life [Mediafire]

Just in case if you were wondering if they could play this song just as well live.

Dirty Gold – Quiet Life (Live In NY)

I have already posted about this young Swede hailing from the city of Malmö. Just in case you missed it, all you need to know is that his originals and remixes are enough to put you in an almost drug induced state of relaxation.

Summer Heart – Please Stay

Work Drugs – Rad Racer (Summer Heart Remix) [Mediafire]

Anthony Gonzales is the name of the incredible musician who was behind the making of this incredible track. He hails from Antipales in France and has been making music for many, many years. He is releasing a new record called Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming on October 18th, but after hearing this first unleashed single, October isn’t coming fast enough.

M83 – Midnight City [Mediafire]

I cannot stress how much I love this song. It’s the same story with these guys as M83, except the album is out late August.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Shuffle [Mediafire]

I know absolutely nothing about Fortunetellers besides the simple fact that this track will put a bounce in your step. You can buy their EP for only one US Dollar on their Bandcamp. To all of my fellow Canadian readers, take advantage of that exchange rate.

Fortunetellers – Make It Easy [Mediafire]

A reggae cover of a country classic. Need I say more?

Toots & The Maytals – Take Me Home, Country Roads (John Denver Cover) [Mediafire]

Do you really think that I can go a month without posting about the Remix Artist Collective? As always, André Anjos has done it again and wowed the music world with his obvious talent. I swear he has a bag of of pixie dust because he continually transforms amazing songs into something even better.

Theophilus London ft. Sara Quin – Why Even Try (RAC Mix) [Mediafire]

Ellie Goulding – Lights (RAC Mix)

This one was from about four months ago now, but just in case you missed it, it deserves a listen.

Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (RAC Mix) [Mediafire]

I think I whine a bit too much.

14 Jul

I think I need another vacation.

I’ve been stressing out about getting everything ready for driving my car to Toronto in about a month, finalizing details for school, straightening things out at work, and finding time to see my friends. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, the only time I get to see the majority of my friends is when everybody goes out for an epic night. Last night I got into my bed at 3:30AM and managed to make it to work at 8AM on time. Tonight, we are gearing up to get rowdy to the music of Dada Life. I’ll let you know how that went tomorrow, but for now, I simply need a few tracks to wind down to.

Below are a select few of my favorite chilled out remixes. All of them besides the William Fitzsimmons remix can be downloaded off of Soundcloud. As usual, simply click the arrow pointing downwards to get it. As for the exception, I have provided a Mediafire link for you. You’re welcome!

It’s times like this that I wish I hadn’t quit drinking coffee,

Grant.

Local Natives – Wide Eyes (Teen Daze Remix)

Ellie Goulding – Heartbeats (Cosmonaut Grechko Edit)

William Fitzsimmons – I Don’t Feel It Anymore ft. Brooke Fraser (George Racquet Remix)

Local Natives – World News (Teen Daze Remix)

Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Pictures (GZUS Remix)
